Lead singer Lucy said,
“This was a really special video to make. We poured our heart and soul into this one with
an absolutely incredible and supportive team.”
Written by lead singer Lucy after a period of reflection during the consent awareness movement in Australia and overseas, the track faces important themes head on through stark vocals, moving lyrics and a brooding soundscape. The intensity behind the track was brought to life by sound engineer and producer Lee McDonald.
Speaking on the meaning behind ‘The Wrong Idea’, the band share:
“This is a really important song to us and our community. The Wrong Idea was cathartic to write, terrifying to first perform but is now a chorus for all that resonate. I hope this track comforts, validates and empowers people and sends a message that things need to change.”
And I am not in the way that you wanted me to be,
that underlies, sweet lies
And I am not in the form that you wanted me to be
you'd prefer a little quieter
But I've tried downplaying the anger, sidelining their behaviour
But this place is simply too toxic
void of real care and logic
And I am not like them in my own way
And I am not gonna play their games
Did I give him, the wrong idea?
His hands just wanted to feel and feel
I can't remember giving in
Excuses my only shield
Because 'no' seems to alienate
And I am not in a safe enough place
Even-though I'm with friends
It can change after 10pm
Did I give him, the wrong idea?

The band recorded this track to tape in their Inner West home in mid-2021. Our sound engineer and producer, Lee McDonald has worked closely with the band to capture the intensity of the track in their live set. For the recording, the band sourced a free piano and had it moved and tuned for the performance. The band feel that this gives the song a raw and hauntingly beautiful tone and it also reminds Lucy of where she first wrote the song; at her family home piano.
