The Wattles are a compelling female-fronted indie rock band from Australia, now making their mark in the UK.

Their climatic sound and commitment to meaningful lyrics draws comparisons to the work of The Cranberries, The Middle Kids and London Grammar.

Over the last few years, The Wattles became a memorable name in the Australian live scene, having played over fifty shows and a few festivals and supported internationally-recognised artists like Reggie Watts, Gordi and Ash Grunwald.

The band first received considerable attention in both UK and Australian media with their poignant single The Wrong Idea. The success of this track and video can be attributed to the raw and enigmatic video and honesty from lead singer Lucy Murray, as she lyrically dives into her experiences with consent.

Since arriving in the UK the band have headlined nearly sold-out London shows at 93 Feet East and The Bedford and joined stellar line up at the O2 Academy Islington. As well, the four-piece have released three unique tracks Take It or Leave It, (I Want To) Feel It All, and The Wizard from their debut EP Fooled. This EP is the product of winning a recording opportunity at Golden Retriever Studios in Sydney, alongside acclaimed producer, Simon Berckelman.

Looking to the next few months, the band are yet to receive their hero track of their EP, Fooled which will be accompanied by a conceptual movement video that was recently shot in 16mm film in south London. The Wattles are lining up shows across the UK and Ireland for the rest of the year and are buzzing to play with touring Australian indie legends, Holiday Mystics.

Capturing the same broad and shimmering aesthetic as acts like London Grammar and Wolf Alice, ‘The Wrong Idea’ makes for an extremely powerful listen.

The Wattles are building giant muscles over the top of their delicate skills, great lashings of tidal power to match their blatant technical talent. Just when you think you’re about to be gently tickled, you end up getting kidney-punched – which is quite the trick to pull off, and is not to be underestimated.

There’s something immediately spellbinding about the music of The Wattles.
